For about a month now, I’ve been the proud new owner of a Ladies Electra Ticino 20D in Pearl Rose. I can honestly say that in this time I have grown to love my bike more and more each day.
Modelled after the vintage European touring bikes of the 40’s and 50’s, the Electra Bicycle Company has designed a bike that is light, fast, comfortable and quite frankly Gorgeous!
This bike now replaces both my cruiser and my hybrid bike! It’s essentially an upright riding position, but just forward enough to provide a speed oriented edge. I can see how they used to ride this style of bikes through the Alps. It’s so light that I hardly even need gears. The handle bars curve back towards me in a way that I find very comfortable for my wrists and makes it super easy to stand up when I need a little extra oomph. And of course, it’s got a lot of eye candy appeal. Just what a Red-head like me needs in a city-touring bike!
After seeing my lovely Electra Ticino, Diane Bald of Roots Canada was inspired by the look, and thrilled with the ride. Here she is with her new Electra Ticino 16D for Ladies.

Despite reports that it would be hard to get downtown and around, we’re quite accessible during the Olympics. Car traffic to get downtown is surprising light, especially in the west end! Just check out www.travelsmart2010.ca before you head out.
There’s lots of free parking at Safeway on the corner of Robson and Denman.
