Thanks to Vancouver’s first city council and the British Government, the former British Royal Navy Base is now our Stanley Park;one of the world’s greatest urban parks.
The Park was named after Lord Stanley, Governor General of Canada, who officially opened the park in 1888. “Stan the Man”, was a conservationist and a sports enthusiast who also donated a trophy for Canada’s best amateur hockey team. In 1926 the NHL adopted the Stanley Cup as professional hockey’s championship prize.
Any time of year is a good time to see the Stanley Park Seawall. The Best thing about living in Vancouver is riding in our beautiful park all year long. Our favorite places to stop in the Park include: Lost Lagoon, the Totem poles, Brockton Point, Malkin Bowl, Silish Rock and Second Beach. No visitor should miss the Vancouver Aquarium.
